Deadline for Traffic Fines Over
Deadline for Traffic Fines Over
2009-11-04 10:05:20

FARGO, ND - The deadline has come and gone for submitting a claim in a federal class action lawsuit against the city of Fargo over traffic fines. Notices were sent to drivers letting them know they were eligible for part of the $1.5 million settlement. Monday was the deadline to submit a claim. City attorney Erik Johnson says response was a little higher than is typical in a lawsuit of this type. Claimants will receive 65-cents on every dollar of traffic fines they paid that exceeded limits set by state law. Individual pay-outs are still being determined. Depending on what happens in a hearing at the end of this month, claims should be paid out within 2 to 3 months. Two people sued, claiming the city violated their rights by assessing higher traffic fines than state law allows. Source: Don Haney, KFGO News Center
