The National Weather Service says it was an EF-2 tornado that tore up parts of Barnes and Cass County early Tuesday. A storm damage survey team assessed the damage yesterday and says the tornado had wind speeds of 110 to 120 mph. The initial touchdown was at a farm about 2 miles east of Sibley and continued on a path that was about 18 miles long and about a half mile wide and ended north of Tower City. The survey team says a weaker "satellite" tornado hit to the south of the main tornado. Damage was minor and indicated a "low end" EF-1 tornado with wind speeds up to 95 mph. The team also found evidence of widespread straight line wind damage in parts of western Barnes into Cass County. In some areas wind speed were estimated at around 100 mph, with significant tree damage south of Hannaford.
