Botox Is Now

(Mostly) Free of Animal Testing

Botox Is Now

Source:  Allure

On Friday, Allergan, the company that makes Botox, announced that they had developed a testing method that would eliminate as much as 95 percent of animal testing for Botox and Botox Cosmetic.

To date, the FDA had required that all batches of Botox be tested on mice in order to ensure that they are all consistently safe and efficient. For the last ten years, the company has been working on an alternative testing method, one that relied on cells in a culture ("in vitro" testing) rather than laboratory animals. The FDA finally approved this testing method, and Allergan plans to phase it in over the next three years.
