Does Washing Your Hands

Boost Your Confidence?

Does Washing Your Hands

Source:  Allure

Forget knocking on wood. A recent study shows that you may actually be able to seize control of your fate—provided your hands are clean. The findings, which are published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology, reveals that a person's willingness to take a risk depended on whether or not she had recently washed her hands. Researchers discovered that those who lathered up after contemplating an unlucky incident were more likely to make a bold move than those who recalled a lucky event, but didn't break out a bar of soap.

Psychologists call these "magical beliefs": the feeling that you can predict or influence an outcome by exerting a measure of supposedly irrelevant control on the situation. It may sound like a lot of hogwash, but if scrubbing my hands helps me to be a little more confident (as well as germ-resistant), than point me to the nearest bathroom, please.
