Police Identify Second Victim Of Apparent Overdose

Authorities have released the name of a 17-year-old boy who died of an apparent overdose from what investigators call a "bad batch" of synthetic drugs circulating in the northern Red River Valley of North Dakota and Minnesota.

 

 

 

 

FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a 17-year-old boy who died of an apparent overdose from what investigators call a "bad batch" of synthetic drugs circulating in the northern Red River Valley of North Dakota and Minnesota.

The victim is identified as Elijah Stai, of Park Rapids, Minn. Police say it appears Stai overdosed on synthetic hallucinogens. He died in a Grand Forks hospital last weekend.

Stai's death is the second one in the Grand Forks area blamed on synthetic drugs in the last week. Police believe that 18-year-old Christian Bjerk, of Grand Forks, died from an overdose of a similar hallucinogen.

U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon calls it a "true emergency" and says authorities are investigating multiple overdoses in the last month. He's asking for help from the public.
