Colwell was an All-Summit League first team pick and a Capital One Academic All-America® first team selection. He hit 10-for-18 (.556) with two walks and four runs scored in four Summit League tournament games and was named to the all-tournament team.

He is the first all-region pick for NDSU since 2004 when catcher Chris Baso, shortstop Jeremiah Piepkorn and right-handed pitcher Neil Wagner were selected to the ABCA All-Central Region squad in Division II.
