SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - Gov. Dennis Daugaard has signed an executive order waiving the federal limit on the number of hours that fuel tankers can operate.
The move is to address fuel shortages across the state, and it's the fourth waiver Daugaard has signed since September.
Terminals across the state typically see shortages and outages during the summer driving months because South Dakota is at the end of the regional supply chain.
Industry estimates say that more than 100 trucks were lined up at the Magellan pipeline terminal in Sioux Falls late Friday to load fuel, and the NuStar terminal was out.
Jason Glodt, a Daugaard aide, says the shortages are likely to continue through the summer.
The hours of service waiver will last until July 9.
