Three fire departments responded an apartment fire caused by lightning in Vergas, Minn. on Monday night.
Lighting hit the eight-plex around 11 p.m. The fire was not discovered until about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Fire Chief Jeff Zitzow said the strike left six holes in the roof.
"A passerby saw smoke coming from a two-story apartment building," said Zitzow. "We confirmed there was smoke and we evacuated the building. When there was smoke through the roof, I called for Perham's ladder truck and also Frazee's automatic mutual aid. We could see fire from the bathroom, like a bath fan, where it must have got some air."
One unit has heavily damage and repairs to the roof will need to be made.
