WASHINGTON (AP) - The campaign of U.S. Senate candidate Heidi Heitkamp says the North Dakota Democrat has raised nearly $1 million in the second quarter of 2012.
Heitkamp is a former attorney general and one-time gubernatorial candidate.
She's running against Republican Congressman Rick Berg, who has not yet released his second quarter fundraising numbers.
According to Heitkamp's campaign, she took in a total of $977,000 in the second quarter.
Heitkamp's tally is likely to keep her competitive in a race that Republicans and Democrats now both acknowledge is competitive.
Heitkamp is trying to hold on to a seat currently held by Democratic Sen. Kent Conrad, who is retiring.
