WEST FARGO - A West Fargo woman was seriously burned in a cooking incident yesterday afternoon.
Police say 48-year-old Qahira Mahdi was cooking something with oil when the pan caught fire. She grabbed it and threw it in the sink and turned on the water. The oil boiled up, burning Mahdi. She then took the pan outside and suffered more burns.
Police say she received severe burns to both hands and a foot.
Mahdi was taken to a Fargo hospital and then airlifted to a twin cities burn unit.
Police learned of the incident when a Fargo police officer stopped a car for speeding on Main Avenue. The driver was rushing Mahdi to the hospital. The officer called for an ambulance to transport her.
