FARGO - Fargo Police are going ahead with their plan to install surveillance cameras in downtown Fargo.

In a story you heard first on KFGO in February, police proposed the idea but received early "mixed reaction" from business owners and strong opposition from the public, but Lt. Jeff Skuza says businesses along the NP Avenue corridor have now asked police for help in stopping a rash of vandalism in and around their stores. Skuza says three surveillance cameras will be temporary.

Joseph Olivieri, owner of Mr. Joseph's School of Hair Design, is one of the owners who went to Lt. Skuza looking for help. Olivieri says, “If we don’t do anything about I’m gonna put my own cameras up.”

Skuza says the department will spent $9,000 on the new surveillance equipment.
