FARGO - Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker was the lone "no vote" as city commissioners approved plans for on-street bike lanes across north Fargo and downtown.
The proposal has been under study and the subject of some heated debate for the past half year.
Walaker says the decision to approve the bike lanes came too soon. He doesn't think the city is ready.
The bike routes cover parts of north Fargo, including 10th Street, University Drive, 4th Avenue and 1st Avenue.
The idea is to connect the main North Dakota State University campus with its downtown campus with a quick and safe route. The lanes will be 7 to 9 feet wide and some will have painted buffers.
