Voters in North Dakota won't see an initiated measure on the ballot this fall to keep the Sioux nickname.
Supporters say they'll wait until December to file petitions with the Secretary of State, meaning the earliest a vote could come would be June of 2014.
The Spirit Lake committee for understanding and respect says it doesn't want the question on the November ballot with several other measures.
The proposal would differ from the recent referendum that voters rejected. It would preserve the name, but not force the University Of North Dakota to use the Sioux name and logo.
