FARGO - Fargo police are surprised by both the number of citations written to texting drivers and by community reaction to the department's first organized crackdown on the practice carried out this week.
Sgt. Ryan Dorrheim says $100 tickets were handed out to 17 drivers during targeted patrols Monday and Tuesday.
As KFGO first reported, police were set up in unmarked vehicles looking for violators along busy routes and radioed to patrol cars the description of the vehicle to pull over.
