FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Shoppers in Fargo might want to check to make sure they are not being charged too much sales tax.
Fargo's sales tax dropped to 7 percent on July 1st, and it's supposed to stay at the rate until the end of the year. But Fargo Auditor Steve Sprague says a few stores have reportedly lagged in making the switch.
City voters approved a half-cent sales tax extension in June that is intended to keep the city's sales tax at 7.5 cents.
But Sprague says that because the state tax commissioner's office needs time to implement a tax extension, the half-cent approved by voters expired on June 30th. The extra half-cent tax will go back on January 1st.
