SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - The South Dakota Advertising Federation says it is disappointed the state Department of Tourism has select an out-of-state company to perform a portion of its marketing for at least the next three years.

The Department of Tourism recently announced it has selected two firms for marketing contracts: Sioux Falls-based Lawrence and Schiller and Kansas City, Missouri-based MMGY Global.

In a letter to the state tourism board sent last week, the South Dakota Advertising Federation said it was disappointed the Department of Tourism did not award the digital contract to an agency from South Dakota.

But tourism officials say they chose firms that will provide the best marketing tools for the state.

Twelve firms from across the country submitted proposals.

Three were from South Dakota.
