Clay County attorney Brian Melton is at the Mayo Clinic, where doctors are scheduled to remove a pituitary tumor.

Melton's Caring Bridge site says additional testing indicated the tumor needs to be removed because of its size. Doctors discovered the problem in February while Melton was serving with the Minnesota National Guard in Kuwait.

Melton is expected to spend one or two days in the hospital. Chief assistant Clay County attorney Michelle Lawson says Melton should be back to work in a few weeks.
