ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has been named CEO of the Financial Services Roundtable, a Wall Street lobbying group.

The 51-year-old Republican will take the job, effective Nov. 1, from longtime CEO Steve Bartlett, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

Roundtable chairman Tom Wilson says Pawlenty created an environment for economic growth and job creation as governor of Minnesota. Wilson says Pawlenty will bring a common sense, balanced approach to problem solving.

The group says because the Roundtable is a bipartisan organization, Pawlenty will resign his post as national co-chairman of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign. Pawlenty had been mentioned as a possible vice-presidential pick for Romney after the former governor dropped out of the presidential race in August 2011. But, that selection eventually went to Rep. Paul Ryan.
