City Commissioners are making modifications to Fargo's noise ordinance at the recommendation of Police Chief Keith Ternes.
Ternes said the changes prohibit outside amplified events in residentially zoned neighborhoods. That will affect events like the Fargo Marathon that's become known for live bands that appear all along its 26 mile route. He also said people can still have the parties but bands cannot use amplifiers.
The revised ordinance will allow amplified sound from locations that are at least 500 feet from a residential area, but people hosting the music must apply for and be granted a city permit.
The permit prohibits the noise between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. weekends and between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. weeknights.
