North Dakota Beats Alaska-Anchorage 5-0 In Opener

Second-ranked North Dakota got two goals from sophomore Mark MacMillan and three more from freshmen to open the season with a 5-0 win on Friday over Alaska-Anchorage at the Brice Alaska Goal Rush.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) - Second-ranked North Dakota got two goals from sophomore Mark MacMillan and three more from freshmen to open the season with a 5-0 win on Friday over Alaska-Anchorage at the Brice Alaska Goal Rush.

Freshmen Bryn Chyzyk, Rocco Grimaldi and Jordan Schmaltz also scored for short-handed North Dakota, which was playing without six starters who were either suspended or out with injuries.

Goalie Clarke Saunders, a transfer from Alabama-Huntsville, had 21 saves in recording the shutout in his first North Dakota start.

Chyzyk and MacMillan staked North Dakota to a 2-0 lead after one period.

North Dakota outshot the Seawolves 33-21.

Alaska-Anchorage goalie Chris Kamal had 25 stops and Rob Gunderson made three for the Seawolves (1-1-1).
