One of the nation's best-known writers about Catholic issues is speaking out about a Barnesville, Minn. teen who claims he was denied the Sacrament of Confirmation. Lennon Cihak says he wasn't allowed to be confirmed because he supports gay marriage.

Fr. James Martin, a Jesuit priest, author and TV commentator, says he's deeply saddened about the situation. Martin tells KFGO News that the story about Lennon is one of the most disturbing he's heard about.

The pastor of Assumption Catholic Church says Lennon was not denied confirmation. In an open letter to parishioners, Fr. Gary LaMoine says what should have been an internal church matter has become a public controversy.

LaMoine says he and Bishop Michael Hoeppner have been "harassed by the media."
