The North Dakota house has approved changes to a child care bill -- that supporters say is a slap in the face to child care providers.
The bill increases the size allowed for child care facilities.
And it removes a $13-million state per-pupil payment to the providers.
Fargo republican Representative Kathy Hawken says the 13-million was a “band-aid” for child care.
And she says employers have identified child care as the top issue when it comes to attracting workers.
Hawken says increasing the allowable size for day cares means all the state is doing is “warehousing” children.
But the full house approved the amendment 54 to 36 - and sent the bill to the house appropriations committee for further work.
