The National Weather Service says there's a 50% chance the Red River in Fargo will top 38 feet next month. That would rank as the 5th highest flood in Fargo history. A deep snow pack, high moisture in the snow and the likelihood of a quick, late warm-up that will speed runoff are all concerns.

City leaders say Fargo has made significant improvements since the 2009 record flood so a flood of this size will not have the same impact this year. But, City Engineer Mark Bittner, a veteran of many flood fights, says we'll have to be prepared.

The city will open sandbag central april 3rd to fill sandbags to protect low spots around the city and plans are being made for temporary clay dikes at several locations.
