Commander Of Guard Civil Support Team Steps Down

The commander of the North Dakota National Guard's 81st Civil Support Team is retiring.

 BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The commander of the North Dakota National Guard's 81st Civil Support Team is retiring.

Lt. Col. Larry Shireley, of Bismarck, is stepping down after more than 12 years of service with the unit. He will be replaced by Lt. Col. Mark Quire, of Bismarck.

Shireley was honored during a retirement ceremony Monday at the Guard's headquarters in Bismarck.

He received the North Dakota Legion of Merit for 26 years of military service.

The team was formed in 1999 as a part-time unit.

Shireley was selected in 2000 to be the first commander of the group, which expanded to 22 full-time soldiers and airmen.
