MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - A second former teacher at a Faribault prep school has been charged with abusing a student, as part of an investigation into reports of sexual abuse at Shattuck-St. Mary's.

Sixty-three-year-old Joseph Carl Machlitt appeared in court Wednesday on counts of criminal sexual conduct.

The complaint says Machlitt sexually assaulted a former student in 1980 after the boy suffered a head injury and was brought to Machlitt's dormitory apartment for observation.

Police say the victim, now 46, came forward after seeing reports about charges against Lynn Seibel, another former teacher charged with having sexual contact with six students.

Online records show Machlitt represented itself.

He was released from custody Wednesday and did not immediately return a message.

Police believe the school staff did not know about the incident.
