The bitter cold is blamed for a big water mess at an apartment building at 21 north 8th street in Downtown Fargo.
A segment of the building's sprinkler system froze and a pipe burst, flooding a 3rd floor unit with three inches of water.
Assistant Fire Chief Gary Lorenze says when crews arrived, water was running out the patio doors.
Matt Wingard says he and his roommates panicked at first and then focused on getting everything out of the water:
The apartment had significant water damage, and the unit directly below on the second floor also has moderate water damage.
Water also got in the walls and basement.
