The Red River Regional Bomb Squad was called to pick up and dispose of a small container of potentially explosive acid at NDSU Tuesday afternoon.

Campus Police Director Ray Boyer says because the picric acid had crystalized and could be explosive to the touch, the bomb squad was called in and safely removed the substance from a lab at the Industrial Agriculture and Communications Center.

Boyer says had the container still been in liquid form, it would have been disposed of in the usual manner. NDSU safety personnel handle approximately 60,000 pounds of chemical waste annual.
