FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Prosecutors in the trial of a Fargo surgeon accused of drugging his wife and sexually assaulting her say the defendant ignored safety precautions to satisfy his sexual obsessions.

Dr. Jon Norberg is accused of raping Dr. Alonna Norberg after giving her propofol, a powerful anesthetic.

Prosecutor Reid Brady said in his opening statement that Jon Norberg "defied dangerous risks."

Defense attorney Robert Hoy said there's no physical evidence and Alonna Norberg concocted the story to use in possible divorce and child custody proceedings.

Hoy says the couple decided together to administer propofol for Alonna Norberg's debilitating medical condition.
