Attorney: V.A. Hospital Marijuana Charges Are 'Unusual'

Defense attorney Richard Henderson says this type of violation is typically not charged as a criminal offense.

An attorney who represents a man facing federal charges of having marijuana in his Fargo V.A. hospital room says the case against his client is "unusual" and "different."

Robert Burdick of Montpelier, ND is accused of failing to comply with regulations that prohibit marijuana on V.A. property. Defense attorney Richard Henderson says this type of violation is typically not charged as a criminal offense.

A criminal complaint says a nurse contacted V.A. police after she found the contraband in Burdick's hospital room.

Burdick appered in court Thursday and was released without bond.
