FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Lawyers for a Fargo surgeon accused of drugging and sexually assaulting his wife have rested their case without calling the defendant to the stand.

Dr. Jon Norberg has pleaded not guilty to gross sexual imposition and reckless endangerment. Authorities say he injected Dr. Alonna Norberg with the anesthetic propofol and had sex with her against her will. Defense attorneys say Alonna made up the allegations to use in divorce and child custody cases.

The last defense witness was Dr. Harjinder Virdee, a psychiatrist who testified Monday that Alonna Norberg suffers from mental health disorders. Virdee says there are "umpteen examples'' of Alonna fabricating symptoms for various illnesses.
