The North Dakota Senate Appropriations Committee takes up amendments to the water commission funding bill today.
Included in the amendments is one authored by House Majority Leader Al Carlson and is tied to funding for the proposed Fargo-Moorhead river diversion.
Lance Yohe is executive director of the Red River Basin Commission.
He says board members have been following the issue.
He says it has generated a lot of interest because it could have far-reaching impacts on the project.
Yohe says the diversion is a key part of an overall plan to protect Fargo-Moorhead, but it is not the only element of the process.
He says an understanding needs to be developed on what needs to be done if federal money is not made available.
