Since the 1997 flood, the city of Fargo has bought out 400 homes.
Another 56 buyouts are on the drawing board for next year. Fargo City Commissioners have given staff the okay to move forward with offers on voluntary buyouts.
City Engineer April Walker says property owners will be offered a purchase at 110% of the assessed value in six neighborhoods in four rounds in 2013. The city has budgeted $30 million dollars for flood protection work and the buyouts in the targeted neighborhoods next year.
