Job vacancies in Minnesota increased 18 percent during the fourth quarter of 2012.

The department of employment and economic development reports there were just under 59-thousand job openings.

Assistant state labor analyst Oriane Casale says employers are optimistic about hiring over the next six months -- with 12-percent expecting to increase employment levels and only five percent planning to decrease staff.

Casale says the most job vacancies during the fourth quarter were in health care and social assistance, retail trade, food services and manufacturing.

She notes that manufacturers are looking for skilled workers.
