A Cold Spring, Minn. police officer was shot and killed Thursday night while doing a welfare check on a man.
Officer Tom Decker, 31, and his partner were checking on a suicidal male who lived above a bar in Cold Spring, when the man shot Decker, killing him. It's not known if the other officer returned fire.
The suspect, Ryan Larson, 34, was arrested about two-hours later. Law enforcement helicopters circled over the town. Emergency response teams from St. Cloud, Stearns County and the State Patrol joined the effort, and just after midnight Larson was arrested.
This morning, a parade of police cars with lights flashing escorted officer Decker's body to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office in St. Paul.
Decker was married with four children.
He had been a cop since 2003.
