VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) - A former University of South Dakota Student is suing a fraternity and several members, saying he was injured in a 2010 hazing incident.

Matthew Cronan said in court documents that he was encouraged to drink excess amounts of alcohol in preparation for a pledge skit in February 2010 held at Sigma Nu in Vermillion.

He says the head injury he sustained prevented him from completing his second semester.

The lawsuit states Cronan's traumatic brain injuries resulted in surgery and a lengthy hospitalization.

Cronan is seeking damages in excess of $300,000.

The Sigma Nu chapter closed in December because of a perpetual lack of finances and recruitment.
