(St. Paul, Mn) -- Hundreds converged on the Minnesota State Capitol Rotunda yesterday afternoon, speaking out against a proposal to legalize same-sex marriage in Minnesota.

Sharon Doran from Golden Valley asks lawmakers to "please uphold marriage, for society's sake".

"Children need parents, mom and dad," Doran says.

"It's the way god made it."

Supporters of same-sex marriage respond a person has a right to marry the person they love, regardless of gender.
