Bismarck State College Deals With Deficit

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A drop in enrollment left Bismarck State College dealing with a $650,000 budget shortfall.

College President Larry Skogen told state lawmakers recently that BSC's fall 2012 enrollment was 4,109 students, a 6.4 percent drop from the previous year. It was the college's first enrollment decrease since 2005. Skogen says that's understandable given the strong economy in the state.

Skogen says the college dealt with the shortfall by not filling staff positions that became vacant and through across-the-board budget cuts.
