BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota's House killed a measure Wednesday that would have made clothing sold at nonprofit thrift shops exempt from sales tax.

The House defeated the measure 50-44.

Tax Department analyst Kathy Strombeck says there are 41 thrift stores operated by nonprofits in North Dakota.

The agency estimates the tax exemption would have cost the state about $645,000 in revenue over the next two years.
