Bismarck, N.D. (AP)  Political activists say this year's election won't change Republican control of the legislature, but Democrats are hoping to make some dents in GOP strength.

One Democratic senate prospect is in Jamestown. Longtime Republican incumbent David Nething is retiring. Democrat John Grabinger almost beat nething four years ago, and he's running for the Senate seat again.

Republican Bernie Satrom is opposing Grabinger. Satrom says he's campaigned hard, and he's optimistic about winning.

In south Fargo, Democratic Senate candidate George Sinner wants to win a seat formerly held by Republican Tom Fischer. Fischer died of a heart attack last year.

Fargo construction company owner Jim Roers was appointed to replace fischer and he's running for his own four-year term of his own.

Republicans hold two-thirds majorities in both the house and Senate.
