A trial date has been set for a former Fargo V.A. Medical Center patient accused of having marijuana and drug paraphernalia in his hospital room. A bench trial for Robert Burdick of Montpelier is scheduled for December 20 in U.S. District Court in Fargo.

Burdick is facing federal charges of failing to comply with regulations on V.A. property. Court documents say a nurse who found the contraband reported it to V.A police.

Burdick's trial is expected to take one day and will be decided by a federal magistrate.

Defense attorney Richard Henderson has said this type of violation is typically not charged as a criminal offense.
