The North Dakota attorney general's consumer protection division is warning of a scam where a recorded message claims that your bank account has been locked because of suspicious activity.

You're told to dial "1" for more information and enter a bank account number or credit card information. Some of the calls name "Gate City Bank" while others mention Visa or "Master Card.

Random dialing equipment is used to make the phony calls and its believed that the calls are originating from out-of-state.

If you receive such a call, you should report it to your bank or credit card company.
