Traditionally, retailers have waited until the day after Thanksgiving to make their big holiday sales push, but North Dakota Retail Association President Mike Rud says that's changing.   He says stores are trying to get shoppers into their stores before their rivals do.

This year, more stores will be opening their doors Thanksgiving Day. Rud doesn't expect the Black Friday event to end anytime soon. He says for most retailers it's still the "big day".

Rud estimates holiday retail sales in North Dakota will be up 6 to 8 percent over last year thanks to the region's strong economy.
