Some Charges Dismissed In Witness-Tampering Case

A judge has dismissed some of the charges against two Aberdeen residents on trial in an alleged witness-tampering case.

 

 

 

 

ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - A judge has dismissed some of the charges against two Aberdeen residents on trial in an alleged witness-tampering case.

The prosecution rested its case Wednesday against former Brown County prosecutor Brandon Taliaferro and Shirley Schwab, a former court advocate for juveniles and families. They are accused in a case in which prosecutors say a sexual abuse victim was influenced to give false testimony.

A misdemeanor count of false reporting against Schwab was dismissed Wednesday, along with a misdemeanor count of obstructing law officers against Taliaferro. They each still face two felony charges: witness tampering and subornation of perjury, or getting another person to lie under oath. They also each face a misdemeanor count of unauthorized distribution of abuse and neglect information.
