The case of a fired Clay County deputy who's appealing his termination is heading to arbitration. Deputy Ryan Carey was kicked off the force last summer after a work-related trip to the Twin Cities.
Clay County Administrator Brian Berg says attempts to settle the case through a non-binding mediator have been unsuccessful. Berg says a hearing has been scheduled for sometime in January.
Carey was fired after attending a law enforcement canine competition. His attorney won't discuss what happened, but he says Carey was not charged with a crime.
