Federal prosecutors say an investigation involving an alleged international gun conspiracy has been going on for about a year.
A Fort Francis, Ontario man was arrested Tuesday during a sting in Grand Forks. Shawn Hartnell is accused of smuggling the weapons across the international border.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Nick Chase says undercover officers recorded their conversations with Hartnell while the sting took place at a Grand Forks hotel. Chase says the investigation was opened last year by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Court documents say Hartnell told undercover agents he smuggled the guns into Canada on snowmobile. The case remains open. More arrests are possible.
