Motion pictures as we know them are not going the way of the horse and buggy but are moving into the digital age.

The film industry is making its most significant change since the 1930's when "talkies" replaced silent films. Film studios have given theaters across the country until next spring to convert to digital projection or face closure because film prints will no longer be available.

The transition to digital will cost the historic Fargo Theatre $200,000. Executive Director Emily Beck says generous benefactors have already raised more than half the amount needed.

The theatre is now going public, seeking donations to complete the drive. You can give on line at Fargotheatre.org. You can also mail a contribution to the Fargo Theater.
