Fargo area homeless shelters have been at or near capacity for months, but the cold weather has spiked the number of people looking for a warm place.
And the shelters say they're struggling to keep up and are turning people away every night.
The staff at the New Life Center says they have never seen a problem this bad in Fargo, and they don't see it getting better any time soon.
The shelter has turned away nearly 500 people since last spring and 55 already this month.
Assistant director Rob Swiers says the center is we're converting one of its rooms into additional shelter.
Last year, area churches opened up their doors to give the homeless a place to sleep through the winter.
A plan is in place to do so again this year.
