Proposals introduced this legislative session would raise Minnesota's minimum wage to as much as $9.50 an hour, a $2.25 an hour increase.
Alexandra Fitzsimmons with the Children's Defense Fund-Minnesota says the organization supports the increase, and also wants lawmakers to review how cash assistance for the state's welfare reform program is calculated.
The formula hasn't been changed in more than 25 years, and right now a family of three receives just $532 a month.
The Children's Defense Fund also wants lawmakers to put a priority on improving how the various state systems work together on behalf of Minnesota's children.
