By a unanimous vote, the Fargo Park District has decided to allow same-sex couples and single-parent households a discount when purchasing season passes to fargo public golf courses.
The decision drops the "Family" discount distinction and introduces a new household designation, allowing some non-traditional families the same rate as married heterosexual couples.
The issue came to light when a lesbian couple was denied a family pass.
The park district admitted that it dropped the ball by excluding same sex couples and single parent households from its discount category.
Commissioners in attendance acknowledged that the controversy over the family pass provided a well-needed wake-up call to the policy.
