A convicted sex offender who moved to North Dakota from Utah has been sentenced to time served.
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A convicted sex offender who moved to North Dakota from Utah has been sentenced to time served.
Authorities say Troy Kartchner had been living in a Watford City trailer park for about four months before he was arrested last summer.
He failed to tell authorities about his relocation, as required by law.
Defense attorneys say in court documents that Kartchner mistakenly concluded that moving to a different state for employment purposes would not require a registration in North Dakota.
Kartchner was ordered to register as a sex offender as part of his December 2004 conviction in Utah for forcible sexual abuse.
U.S. District Judge Daniel Hovland ordered Kartchner to serve five years of supervised release.
